You Should Incorporate Nutritive Herbs

Let’s be honest, we probably aren’t getting enough nutrients through our diets. We should be incorporating somewhere around 5-9 daily servings of micronutrients from our fruits and veggies (with a focus on veggies and the dark green leafy kind). I know that I struggle to incorporate all of my fruits, veggies, and protein in my daily life and have thus added more supplements to my routine (though I’m aiming to get back on track!).

I have fallen off this habit a bit, but I found that salads with kale, arugula, cucumber, tomato, carrots, red cabbage, and flax seeds (with lemon juice and olive oil) were good bases for me. Soups with bone broth, celery, red peppers, carrots, and other veggies of choice are also a nice alternative for the winter. Especially since you can add herbs to soups and broths for an extra healing punch.

what are Nutritive Herbs?

Though we eat food everyday, we may still be missing out on specific vitamins and minerals which cause deficiencies that can impact our overall health. Supplements are the most common remedy people turn to. Though helpful, I suggest also trying nutritive herbs as another option.

Incorporating herbs is a great way to introduce more nutrients into your diet. When you work with nutritive herbs, you’re adding a more concentrated vitamin or nutrient into your body by way of a specific herb. These nutritive herbs help your body function at a more optimal level.

We often think about herbs when it comes to seasoning food, but herbs when taken in broth or infusion form can be your ultimate ally when looking to increase specific nutrients for your cellular health. Think of the typical inclusion of oregano or sage in your soups/poultry seasonings. These are super herbs with great benefits which typically include anti-inflammatory properties and nutrients such as vitamin B3, zinc, and others.

NETTLES AS A NUTRITIVE ALLY

One of my favorite nutritive herbs is nettles. Nettles is a dark green herb with a very earthy flavor. Nettles can easily be harvested outdoors (of course, with care and consideration to avoid toxins based on where they grow), and have such a plethora of health benefits. It’s a main ingredient in my Women’s Health Herbal Support Tea because I find its nutrients are incredibly helpful for women: iron, zinc, folate, and vitamin C, among others.

Nettles also has diuretic properties and can help bring your body into balance by supporting the alkaline levels in your body. With its diuretic properties, nettles also serve as a gentle kidney cleanser and can be an aid when looking to relieve gout and reduce uric acid.

Overall, from a personal perspective, I love working with nettles during the menstruation cycle as I want to support my iron levels during that time. I encourage you to look up nettles and see how it may benefit any deficiencies you may be working to overcome.
