Herbs for Respiratory Health

Respiratory health issues seem to be on the rise this season!

I’ve been observing an increase in upper and lower respiratory infections, including sore throat, coughing, and even walking pneumonia. In response, it’s a good time to stock up on lung and immunity-boosting herbs (I’ve listed some below), increase preventative care like Vitamin C intake, and perform energetic cleanses.

Now that it’s colder, it’s easier to reach for a soothing drink to warm your immune system and provide nourishment through hot herbal infusions, bone broth, and soups. And just so we’re clear, an herbal infusion is a drink made by steeping your herbs (plant, root, flower, seed) in hot water to extract its beneficial properties. Take a look at some of my herbal recommendations below!

HERBS FOR RESPIRATORY HEALTH

Licorice Root: While I encourage the use of mullein leaf and eucalyptus for lung health, I also encourage incorporating licorice root in your herbal infusions (teas) as it’s an herb of choice for alleviating chest discomfort, soothing coughs, sore throats and supporting respiratory health. This is especially helpful for those who are battling with pesky, persistent coughs.

Thyme: Another herb to reach for while working through respiratory issues is thyme, as it has antimicrobial properties that makes it a great herb to fight against viruses. Thyme helps open up congested airways, loosens mucus, and can soothe irritated airways. Incorporate fresh thyme into your soups and broths for a bit of healing magic while cooking!

That is a great advice, thank you for telling us more about useful tips for respiratory health support. As about herbs, recently I found mullein leaf extract in drops that also has licorice. That works great for lung health, I guess even better than pure mullein tincture I had before, I like these drops a lot!
